I am delighted to introduce Denise Lach, whose work many of you will know. She is a professor at The Basel School of Design where she teaches lettering, design and screen printing.
On my last visit to Europe we got to meet, and she enchanted me with her work, her studio, her garden, and French cocktails.
Here is what she says about the class:
We will make patterns with marks and letters. By constantly changing the parameters, and copying patterns in landscape, we will open a window on the infinite possibilities of creating textures. The approach is meant to be playful and does not exclude those who are not calligraphers. The love of letters, a little fantasy, concentration and a certain taste for risk are all that is necessary.
Class experiments with will include patterns and textures from the New Mexico landscape, and from our collaboration in the classroom.
Workshop Information
Workshop Fee
The food is spectacular. Side dishes at Mabel’s.
The workshop fee includes the class, your room, and all meals. All rooms have a private bathroom, and the meals are large and delicious.
Double room: $3200
Single room: $3595
A $500 non-refundable deposit is due upon registration. The balance is due January 1, 2024.

We are committed to making this workshop accessible to people of all income levels, including younger students. To this end, we are happy to announce the Martin Ray Young at Heart Scholarship to help make this possible.

Workshop Location
This workshop is held at Mabel Dodge Luhan House in the heart of Taos, NM. Those traveling by air can fly into Albuquerque or Santa Fe, then take a private shuttle or public transportation to Taos.
Please note that Mabel’s is an historic site and is not handicap accessible. Taos is at an elevation of about 7,000 feet above sea level.
Workshop Registration
Deposit
A $500 nonrefundable deposit is required to hold your place in the class. Students are registered in the order in which their deposits are received. Click on the button below to register and pay your deposit.
Attendance Policy
Due to the meditative and structural nature of Laurie's classes, classes are reserved for students who are able to attend the entire time. Cell phones, smart watches, and other pesky gadgets are forbidden in the classroom. (No exceptions.)
Cancellations and Refunds
If you need to cancel your registration for any reason, please let my studio manager know as soon as possible by sending an email to noelle@lauriedoctor.com. If someone fills your spot, your payment will be refunded, minus your $500 nonrefundable deposit. If no one fills your spot, you will not receive a refund.
