This year has been especially invigorating for my teaching, and this is largely because of my students. I am ever uncertain about where I am headed, but regain perspective when I am in the classroom. My love for improvisation is grounded in structure — a theme and often an alphabet — and in most cases, the class experience is documented in a handmade book.
