Class Description
This class is full.
We will work with phrases, or short quotes, that have meaning for you. Notice what touches you, what you respond to, and begin collecting words from poems or songs or newspapers or books or conversation, and write or paste them down.
In the classroom, the writing out of these phrases will be experimental, and draw from the work of German calligrapher Hans-Joachim Burgert. Like Paul Klee, Burgert also investigated the quality and qualities of “line.” The process of exploring line creates endless possibilities for the intersection of drawing and calligraphy and paint. We will use graphite, ink, and paint in our explorations. We will cultivate focus and play, experimentation and imagination, in a contemplative atmosphere. We will make a simple hand bound book.
All levels of experience welcome.
Note: Due to the meditative and structural nature of my classes, this class is for students who are able to attend the entire time. Cell phones, smart watches, and other like gadgets are forbidden in the classroom. (No exceptions.)
