There is a deepness that happens in your work when you are willing to return again and again to the same subject. Henry Moore did figure studies as a daily practice and William Stafford got up each morning and wrote a poem.
It is a profound human instinct to want to re-create beauty- to hold it in our eye or heart a moment longer; to return to the experience. In this class we will begin to explore drawing and writing as a way to reflect beauty, working from the landscape of southern France and from samples of found objects and writing. Color studies will be part of the exploration.
Exercises and ways of working will be taught in a contemplative atmosphere that foster quality of line, seeing with the eyes of an artist, and doing work that is particular to each student.
Each student will be responsible for choosing a subject that they return to. Techniques will be taught that are useful for advanced and beginning students. All levels of experience are welcome.
