Performance Art

It is annual tradition at Naropa University Convocation for the president to draw seven names out of a hat. If he draws your name, you stand up and recite a spontaneous line of poetry, and then the next person whose name is drawn adds to the first line of poetry until seven names have been drawn.

I am at the front of the Performing Arts Center with my paint, brushes and paper. I write as people recite, and in the end we have a painting.

This work has evolved into doing other kinds of performance calligraphy, including weddings and celebrations.
